After a few weeks off, the Peterborough Phantoms headed to Wales for their next BPIHA League game against the Cardiff Huskies. Phantoms welcomed Matt Coleman back, who had been out since sustaining an injury in their victory in Sheffield in June.
Phantoms started the stronger of the two team and Huskies netminder Gareth Rees was called into action early to deny Scotty Turner. At the other end of the ice Tyler Christopher and Paul Furber both tested David O’Meara in the Phantoms goal in a scoreless opening 15 minutes.
It was former Phantoms player Jon “Frenchie” LeGaloudec who opened the scoring for the homeside as the Huskies finally found a way past the Phantoms robust defence. Despite going a goal down the Phantoms kept pushing forward with Matt Coleman and Kieran O’Meara having chances to get on the scoresheet.
With just one goal in it going into the final period, the Phantoms threw everything including the kitchen sink at the Huskies in an attempt to pull the game level. Pushing forward they were caught on the break by another former Phantoms in Tyler Christopher who fired the puck past David O’Meara to double the Huskies lead.
Despite fighting to the end, the Phantoms couldn;t find a way past Rees in the Huskies goal, and after 45minutes of end to end action it was Cardiff who claimed the points.
Man of the Match beers went to both netminders, Gareth Rees and David O’Meara, who were kept busy all game.
Shots On Goal:
Huskies: Gareth Rees – 27/0 (5-10-11)
